BREW 2006 Developer Awards

Q: What are the BREW Developer Awards?
A: The BREW Developer Awards recognize an outstanding array of diverse and innovative BREW applications. For exact requirements and step-by-step instructions, please see the BREW Developer Awards Rules.

Q: Who is eligible to enter?
A: The BREW Developer Awards are open to publishers and developers worldwide, as well as to all individuals age 18 and over. All applications submitted must be developed for Qualcomm's BREW platform. The principals of the publisher and/or developer company named on the entry form cannot be Qualcomm employees.

Q: When is the deadline for submissions?
A: The BREW 2006 Developer Awards call for submissions is now closed. All online entry forms and application demos must have been received by February 28, 2006 to be considered.

Q: Why is the deadline for the 2006 awards program earlier than previous years?
A: The deadline for submissions and demos for the BREW 2006 Developer Awards is earlier than previous years in order to accommodate the increasing number of awards submissions that Qualcomm receives each year. Award entries continue to grow each year and this earlier deadline is necessary for the judges to thoroughly review all entries. Additionally, the evaluation period for the awards program falls during a very busy time for the industry-wide panel of judges. With shows such as 3GSM World Congress, Game Developers Conference and CTIA occurring during this time frame, it was necessary to build in extra time for the judging process. Qualcomm strongly encourages publishers/developers to begin submitting their entries as soon as possible.

Q: What should I include with my entry?
A: In addition to completing the online entry form, you will need to submit a demo of your application in order to complete your nomination. Please note that participating publishers/developers are asked to submit only an application demo (requirements listed below), not an application-loaded handset as was required in years past.

Q: How many entries may I submit?
A: A company may nominate no more than five applications total, across all categories. All forms, regardless of region, must be completed in English. An email will be sent confirming receipt of your entry form.

Q: May I use one entry form to submit an entry for two or more categories?
A: No. Each application must have its own entry form in a category.

Q: What are the demo requirements?
A: Demos must meet the following requirements:
  • Time: 30 - 60 seconds
  • Quality: Uncompressed or highest quality available
  • Frame size: minimum 225x250
  • File size: 20MB maximum

File type: Flash, AVI, MOV (preferably the source files)

Q: Does my application need to be commercially available?
A: With the exception of the "Best Up and Coming Application" category, all nominated applications must be commercially available on an operator's BREW service by February 28, 2006. Your application is considered commercial when subscribers are able to download the application onto a commercial handset. Applications that have passed TRUE BREW® testing, but are not yet commercially available, are not eligible.

Entries for the "Best Up and Coming Application" category must be pre-commercial applications that are, at minimum, in the Beta stage of development.

Q: How will the entries be judged?
A: Entries will be judged using a "scorecard" system based on the following criteria: Ease of Use, Originality, Cool Factor, Features, and Success to Date (Likelihood of Success if pre-commercial and submitted for the "Best Up and Coming Application" category).

Q: How do I find out whether or not I've won?
A: Finalists will be announced May 8, 2006. BREW 2006 winners will be named at the awards ceremony, held at BREW 2006 in San Diego, CA, May 31 - June 2, 2006.

Q: Who do I contact if I have additional questions?
A: Please direct all inquiries regarding the BREW 2006 Developer Awards to Qualcomm.
