Operators Worldwide Continue to Deploy and Announce Interest in BREW-Based Products and Services
Midwest Wireless became the ninth wireless operator to launch BREW-based products and services worldwide - the fourth in the United States. The Minnesota-based wireless service provider successfully launched BREW-based services across its CDMA2000 1X network with two handsets - the LG VX4400 and Kyocera 3225 - and a variety of applications.
Midwest Wireless joins Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL and U.S. Cellular in the United States, KTF in South Korea, KDDI in Japan, China Unicom, VIVO (the joint venture between Telefónica Móviles and Portugal Telecom) in Brazil and Telstra in Australia, in commercializing BREW-based services. More than 75 BREW-enabled handset models have been offered to consumers worldwide by 18 different manufacturers.
India's Reliance signed a definitive agreement with Qualcomm to launch a wireless data service based on BREW. . The agreement will enable subscribers of Reliance Infocomm's CDMA2000 1X service to be the first wireless users in India to download BREW-based applications.
Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless Communications Inc. (APBW), the first operator in Taiwan to commercialize third-generation (3G) services utilizing CDMA2000 technology signed a non-binding MOU with Qualcomm regarding BREW.
