New BREW Extensions Now Available

Qualcomm is pleased to announce the availability of the following BREW extensions: the M7Challenge by M7 Networks, the XML Parser by Reaxion and the TruVideo Player by TruVideo. The M7 Challenge is a BREW extension with an accompanying hosted server infrastructure that can be leveraged to catalog user information and maintain player scores for BREW games. The XML parser for BREW provides developers with easy-to-use method that is not resource intensive to parse XML data from local or network storage. TruVideo's BREW extension decodes a Truvideo compressed video bit stream for display on Motorola T-720 handsets. As such, it can be used in any application for BREW-enabled phones that requires video playback and compression. The M7 Challenge and XML Parser are now available on the Developer Extranet and the TruVideo Player will be soon.

M7 Challenge for BREW by M7 Networks
The M7 Challenge is a BREW extension with an accompanying hosted server infrastructure that can be leveraged to catalog user information and maintain player scores for BREW games. By adding this feature to current and future applications, BREW game developers can make the game more attractive as gamers can compete with other players for the highest scores.

The M7 Challenge enables BREW game players to submit scores and retrieve the latest high scores via an HTTP connection. The information submitted to the extension and M7's High Score application server, includes user ID (i.e., user chosen identification string), game name, phone number (to distinguish between users who select the same user ID), score and game developer (to distinguish between two developers of the same game name/type).

XML Parser for BREW by Reaxion
The XML parser for BREW provides developers with easy-to-use method to parse XML data from local or network storage that is not resource intensive. The XML parser enables applications that will read structured data from network or local storage and that need access to web contents, corporate data, web services, or any other XML documents. Reaxion's BREW XML is SAX2 compatible and allows the processing of BREW specific I/O structures such as files, streams and memory blocks.

TruVideo Player by TruVideo
TruVideo's BREW extension decodes a Truvideo compressed video bit stream for display on Motorola T720 handsets. As such, it can be used in any application for Brew enabled phones that requires video playback and compression. These include, video-enabling MMS applications, game development, streaming pre-recordedor live content, home and business remote surveillance, mobile access to traffic cameras, and video shorts. Truvideo's proprietary, patented video compression technology scales from bit rates as low as 5 kilo bits per second to as high as 1 mega bits per second, and features high image quality and frame rates at low bit rates and low-power devices, typical of mobile applications. Truvideo's solutuions have been tested in live web cam and file streaming applications over both IS-95 and 1XRTT networks. Truvideo's extension will soon be available on other cell phones besides Motorola T20.

About BREW Extensions
BREW extensions are enabling technologies developed by independent software vendors to help facilitate rapid development of BREW applications. A BREW Extension is not used as a standalone application, and is not specifically purchased, downloaded, or deleted by a device user. Rather, these functions are handled within the context of the application that uses the extension. Examples of BREW extensions are JAVA virtual machines, video players, game engines, etc. BREW provides the ability to manage and monetize BREW extensions. For more information about BREW extensions, please contact brew-extensions@qualcomm.com. Public extensions are available for review by all Authorized BREW Developers via the BREW Developer Extranet.
