Qualcomm BREW conference continues in San Diego

Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM), announced Thursday that BREW publishers and developers have earned more than $350 million to date from the sale of wireless applications and services developed for the BREW solution, a substantial jump up from the $200 million announced earnings in October 2004.
Earnings figures were calculated based on payments made by Qualcomm to developers and on reports from certain BREW operators on what they had paid to their publishers and developers. 9 Squared, AG Interactive, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Sorrent will be showcasing their portfolio of wireless offerings during the BREW 2005 Conference Thursday and Friday.
From the conference, Verizon Wireless, announced Thursday that total Get It Now downloads are expected to surpass the 200 million download milestone by the end of this month. Get It Now currently contains a library of more than 500 games, productivity tools, information services, ring tone providers, wallpaper providers and an IM chat client.
John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless is scheduled to speak at the BREW developers conference Thursday at 10:40 a.m. Stratton is expected to outline Verizon Wireless' broadband vision, examine strategies for success.
Lumitrend, a provider of mobile applications, announced Thursday it will be exhibiting a suite of applications developed for Qualcomm's BREW platform, including CellBackup, CellSynx and Ringvault.
"The BREW solution enables Lumitrend's family of mobile applications to seamlessly co-exist with handset manufacturers' existing software and helps customers avoid significant downtime due to loss, theft or replacement of their devices," said Rob Meadows, chief executive officer for Lumitrend.
During the conference, Lumitrend will showcase the benefits and functionality of CellBackup, CellSynx and Ringvault for show attendees. CellBackup is a content management application that automatically backs up each user's mobile phonebook to a secure online database allowing them to easily transfer information to a new phone and restore contacts with the touch of a button. CellSynx allows wireless users synchronize contacts, calendars, tasks and notes between their phone and PC.
Phoneytunes.com, a company focused on bringing solutions to mobile phone operators, announced Thursday the availability of a variety of applications developed for Qualcomm's BREW platform. Phoneytunes will be showcasing its latest offerings at the conference.
Wireless industry insiders saw the unveiling of Glu Mobile, a new worldwide mobile entertainment brand representing the combination of U.S. developer and publisher, Sorrent, and award-winning European studio and technology provider, Macrospace. The announcement was made at the conference.
San Diego-based Kyocera Wireless Corp., a manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones and devices, unveiled a new wireless phone called the Kyocera Dorado KX13 at the conference. The Dorado KX13 is a platform for games or ringtones with a built-in flashlight and internal antenna.
Qualcomm Inc. traded up 2 cents to $38.12 in midday trading.
