BREW®-Based NAVITME Application To Be Available On A5304T
Tokyo - January 29, 2003 - Navitime Japan Co., Ltd. (President: Keisuke Ohnishi; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) has developed the BREW® version of NAVITIME, the company's transportation route search application provided through KDDI's EZweb wireless Internet service. The BREW-versioned application will be pre-installed on KDDI's new handset A5304T, which is scheduled for introduction at the end of this February.
NAVITIME is the ultimate personal navigation service, enabling users to arrive at their destinations on time. With a single search, the service automatically selects (or allows users to select), out of all means of transportation including plane, train, car and walk, and instantly displays an optimal route to the destination for the particular moment and circumstances. The service shows the optimal route together with the time to reach the destination, station exits, taxi fares and VICS traffic jam information, on the same cell phone screen. Whereas most of other similar navigation services available today display only map, train transfer information or estimated journey time, NAVITIME is the world's first navigation service that quickly allow users to find out which route they should take at the time either by "train and on foot," or "by car" to reach their destination faster. (See below: *Features of Total Navi Pro)
The primary feature of the BREW version of the NAVITIME application is its fast operationality. The NAVITIME application consists of the (1) map drawing and (2) browser capabilities. The map drawing capability powered by the BREW version of Mviewer (fast-speed vector map drawing engine) developed by Navitime Japan Co., Ltd. processes map scale adjustments, scrolling and route displaying over 10 times faster than map drawing processed by WAP-based browsers. Using BREW's IHtmlViewer, the browser capability enables fast HTML-based service delivery and display. As a result, the application is capable of displaying destination setups and text-based route guidance at a very high speed.
In addition, the NAVITIME application pre-installed on the A5304T handset is designed to allow users to quickly boost the application by holding down the handset's application key. The quick-start capability will be very useful to users, particularly when they are in a hurry. Furthermore, the GPS capability embedded into A5304T allows users to automatically set up their current location, therefore they are able to easily access the NAVITIME service by setting up their destination address and phone number. The BREW version of the NAVITIME service will be provided for free of charge for 30 days after purchase of the A5304T handset. After the charge-free period is over, NAVITIME and NAVITIME Pro will be available at the monthly rates of Yen 210 and Yen 315 (excluding consumption tax), respectively.

*Features of Total Navi Pro
1) Total Navi Pro offers navigation service combining all means of transportation including, trains, planes, walking and cars. Navitime Japan is the only company in the world offering route search engine that supports all means of transportation.
2) Taking traffic jam information and timetables (for all airlines, JR, private railways, subways, excursion trains, and seasonal and holiday services) into account, Total Navi Pro searches and displays an optimal route, by determining which is faster to arrive at the destination either by train or car.
3) Total Navi Pro is the first VICS (*Note 1)-enabled service implemented on the cellular phone, allowing users to search a route that avoids traffic jam, in real-time. It is also capable of displaying various road restriction information, such as traffic jam, road closure and lane restriction, on the map.
4) With the taxi fare calculation capability of the service, users are able to know the taxi fare they will have to pay ahead of time.
5) Other train transfer services typically require users to input station names on their own. However, Total Navi automatically searches optimal stations and exits (e.g. A1, South Exit). When a user has to transfer the train, the service displays train carriage numbers (e.g., No.2 and No.5) convenient for the transferring. It also displays walking routes from the nearest station to the destination on the map.
6) The service precisely represents actual pedestrian routes including sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and footbridges, which are calculated based upon the pedestrian network data created by Shobunsha Publications, Inc. Navitime Japan is the only company in the world offering accurate pedestrian navigation service.
Note 1: VICS is the traffic jam and transport information linked with the digital maps distributed by the Vehicle Information and Communication System Center
